Our dentist will use a local anesthetic when providing a dental filling. This may cause your lips, teeth and tongue to be numb for several hours following treatment. Avoid chewing and consuming hot foods or beverages until the numbness has worn off. You may also want to take a mild pain reliever prior to the anesthetic wearing off; this will help with swelling at the injection sites where the anesthetic was administered.
It is normal to experience some sensitivity to heat, cold and pressure after your appointment. You may be sore for several days. You may rinse your mouth three times a day with warm salt water (1 tsp. salt in 8 oz. warm water) to reduce pain and swelling.
You can chew immediately on new composite (tooth-colored) fillings, as they set completely on the day of your appointment.
If your bite feels uneven or you have persistent pain or discomfort, please contact Davidson Cosmetic & Family Dentistry immediately at 704-987-2277 to speak with our dentist and team.
