When we place a crown or a bridge in your mouth, there is a “break-in” period during which you will adjust to the new restoration. Please be aware of the following:

Chewing
Do not chew hard foods on the new crown or bridge for at least 24 hours. The cement used to bond the restoration needs time to harden so that the restoration can function at full strength.

Sensitivity
You will have some sensitivity to temperature changes when eating. This sensitivity should dissipate after a few days. If sensitivity lingers, please contact our office.

Regular Dental Cleanings
Even if you are visiting Davidson Cosmetic & Family Dentistry regularly for dental cleanings, you must keep a good oral hygiene routine at home. Your restorations are not safer from decay and gum disease than your natural teeth. The best way to care for your crown or bridge is to continue brushing and flossing regularly and keeping your appointments for professional dental cleanings.

Preventive Care
Brush and floss regularly. You should brush at least twice a day, including right before bed, and you should floss daily. You may also use an over-the-counter mouth rinse to reduce your risk of tooth decay.

Aggressive Chewing
The better you treat your teeth, the longer you can enjoy them. Hard foods can chip porcelain just like they would chip tooth enamel. Please respect your teeth.
