Congratulations on investing in your smile!
You have changed your bite and smile. It may take you a couple of days to adjust to the new position of your teeth. If you detect any “high spots” or other unusual positioning with the teeth after this adjustment period, please contact our office so that our dentist can correct the issue.
You may experience some sensitivity to heat and cold, as well as some soreness in your gums, for a few days. You may rinse your mouth three times a day with warm salt water (1 tsp. salt in 8 oz. warm water) to reduce pain and swelling. You may also use mild pain relievers as needed.
Do not be alarmed if your speech is affected for the first few days or if you experience an increased flow of saliva. These issues will subside as your mouth adjusts.
Continue to practice good oral hygiene at home with daily flossing and brushing. Regular dental cleanings at our office are also critically important to maintaining your teeth and gums.
You may also need to change some habits to protect your new teeth. Any food that could damage your natural teeth can do the same to your cosmetic restorations. We recommend avoiding or minimizing your intake of:
- Sticky candies
- Hard foods
- Tea, coffee, red wine and berries (to prevent staining)
- Smoking
